Floripa and Isla Santa Catarina | view from the mirador El Morro |
Florianopolis (called by the locals Floripa) was founded 1673 by Francisco Dias Velho. The actual city is partly on the mainland and partly on Isla Santa Catarina. The architecture of the historical part shows the influence of the Portuguese immigrants (mainly from the Azores) which arrived 1748.Two bridges connect Florianopolis, the famous Hercilio Luz which was planned by Gustave Eiffel and the new double highway bridge. |
