Things To Do: Finger Lakes Park and Wine Country
  • Tip Rating:
  • Along the shores of Seneca Lake is awesome wine country, an elegant way to explore the New York 'countryside'. The Finger Lakes is New Yorks only national forest. Biking or hiking trails criss-cross across this preserve nestled between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. The scenery varies from open pastures, carved gorges, and quiet woodlands. There is a legend told by the Iroquois of The Great Spirit Manitou leaving an impression ofhis hand, which became the Fingerlakes. Fact or fiction... this place is enchanting.

Things To Do: Kayaking on the Hudson River
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Yes... who would put the two in the same sentence, but I tried it and I am a believer. There's nothing as unxepected as hopping on a kayak at Manhattan's Chelsea district, Pier 63, and cruising on the Hudson with the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State building in sight. If you're luck is on you can catch nice sights of the Catskills range, Storm King and Palisades. This activity is a basic joy for me based on its unsuspected surprise element.

Things To Do: Road Trip into the Adirondacks
  • Tip Rating:
  • Take a drive up north towards the Adirondacks, and stop off to enjoy the sites on your way. Take Northway (I-87) and follow the signs to Saratoga Springs. In the park there are mineral baths and a Performing Arts Centre. Fort Ticonderoga may be another consideration if you're interested in American Revolutionary war history. In the Adirondacks there are heaps of activities to do... hardcore adventures for those who feel like they were born to climb, to relaxed layed back stuff for people who love the comforts of home (and car). Take your time, enjoy the scenery, and discover that there's more to New York than just highrises and skyscrapers.

Things To Do: Corning: Perhaps For the Romantic
  • Tip Rating:
  • The historic Market Street of Corning is laid with bricks, which leads you through the commercial center of this western New York city. This district is lined with specialty shops, bookstores, antique shops, and restaurants, and is a registered National Historic District. Have a cup of coffee in a little streetshop, or watch glass blowing in the various artists workshops. Corning is known for its fancy art of delicate glass blowing. I never thought this wasvery interesting until I saw it done first hand. It can be a real unforgettable experience.

Things To Do: Explore Long Island
  • Tip Rating:
  • New York State - Remains of Pembroke Estate entrance

  • Long Island, New York has a mix of interesting sites and activities. From 'Gold Coast' historical estates (private or public mansions... and even mansion ruins) to lighthouses and beaches packed with bronzing sunworshippers. The surf is non-existent to OK on a good day.

I'm working on a Long Island, NY page... please standby.

    Things To Do: Niagra Falls
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Niagara Falls Reservation State park is the first state park in the nation. From this vantage view point you can se from the top of the falls down. It doesn't exactly seem extremely high, but the power is immense. If you'd rather get an opposite view hop on the Maid of theMist tour, but you're probably gonna be more than a little damp (no worries, get slickers). The Cave of the Winds in the rReservation State Park will give you views of the Bridalveil falls. Aside from the falls itself, there's a few attractions around the local area.
