Oygh. There were many things about this hotel that were sub-par.
First of all, it is, though, in a good neighborhood; Lakewood, a suburb of Cleveland, directly to the West. If you're going to be frequenting downtown, this is a safe, nearby location, in the event that you can't afford a downtown hotel.
However, there were many flaws. First of all, the impassive desk agents. The very creaky floors (hallways and rooms) and stairs. Then the vending machine on our floor didn't work. There was no coffee pot. No vent in the bathroom. There's mold and whatever else odd stain along the granite trim in the shower. The shower curtain was discolored. The water smelled funny, and sometimes had a yellow tint (Lakewood water is normally not like that; I don't understand why at that hotel). The bed sheet was too small, and easily slipped from the bed corners. The bed sheets and blankets are like burlap. There aren't elevators. There's no light in the actual shower stall. The shower shelves are too narrow, and barely fit anything bigger than those travel size toiletries. Some lamps didn't work. Some outlets didn't work, and one outlet actually would recede into the wall if something was plugged in.
Some major annoyances; some minor. You take the good with the bad, if you can't afford a better hotel. If you can afford better, do it!

I found my stay at the Renaissance to be an absolute treat! Having walked by the hotel many times upon many times and being inside a few times, I overtly enjoyed staying here. It's an absolutely beautiful and comfortable hotel. Clean, as well. The service was excllent (even a tad trite at times) including quick valets. The room was well-furnished and I am reminded of a bed and breafast type of room, with the cozy, romantic feel. There was a large dresser, I think that we had 2 closets, a desk with a lamp and various other features for the business minded, a large comfy bed; they seemed to have the amenities covered quite nicely.
There's a sophisticated 5 star restaurant on site and even some random encased artifacts from an earlier time with the building's history. I also enjoyed spendng time in the common room/lobby as a piano player entertained. There's a fountain, so many comfy chairs and sofa. I also passed through the bar but I didnt stay, so, no reviews on that.
Overall, if you can afford staying here, do it! It's a very historic building for Cleveland and you'll be treated wonderfully!

Most times that my friend Erik has come to visit me, he's stayed here and has been very pleased. I have enjoyed it, too! The staff are friendly, mainly. The rooms have always been clean for us; even the kitchenette. The kitchenette isn't much, though; a refridgerator, coffeemaker, and a microwave; they also appear clean. The coffee-in-a-packet isn't half bad, though! The shower heads are awesome; they make the water stream very comfortable; I think that they're massaging shower heads. Anyway, the bathroom appears very clean, replete with a plethora of towels. The TV is cable, with video gaming options. The bedsheets could be softer, though... But the pillows are big and comfy! There is also a DSL or cable internet hookup and desk. Overall, even our single-bed room was huge; a lot of room to move. They also seem to have covered the basic amenities. This hotel is better than the nearby Holiday Inn Lakeside! The breakfast bar has a lot of choices, and what I've tried there I was always satisfied with. Thye even have a business center, with two computers; only one was turned on each time we had gone down there, though, and the computers were operting on Win 98 or 95; they were clunky and slow much of time.
Anyway, reviewing hotels isn't my strength, but I highly recommend staying here. Need more reasons? Follow the link.
Unique Qualities: The building has a classical, early 20th century type of architecture/decor. It's beautiful. The hotel's location is very close to a variety of nightlife hotspots, too.
