At one time I was a frequent visiter to this part of the coast but my visit here in january 2008 was my first return here for 10 years. It really has changed, Malindi seems quite a substantial town. What was once really peacefull streets are now choka with tuk-tuks taxis and push bikes.

These days you could easily think you were somewhere in Italy the amount of Italian spoken especially if you venture up the tacky touristic Lamu road. At one time there seemed to be a balance of tourists from all over Europe.

Thankfully the beach here is reall quiet still. The water here can be quite brown but for the best beach you should head south of Vasco de Gama point to Silver sands.

The main beach is still fairly busy with locals fishing from dhows, and the fish market at the end of the Jetty can be busy at dawn with local women carrying dirty great fish on their heads away form the market.
