    • If you walk around the charming Old Town of Stuart long enough, you’ll probably come across this pretty mural, of “the way Stuart used to look”.
    Till post-WWII, there just wasn’t much here but farms and fishermen.

    • I’m fortunate to have relatives in Stuart, which gives me an excuse to visit now & then, and I get to stay in their lovely renovated 1922 Mediterranean Revival home.
    It's fun walking around the residential streets of this pretty little town to see the lovely gardens, especially in the older areas where there are many of these 1920's vintage homes.

    • Stuart is a port harbor city, laced with lovely canals and liberally sprinkled with marinas. This canal flows right behind my aunt & uncle's home.

    • Our trolley guide (see Transportation Tips) was quick to point out that the fish on top of this restaurant are NOT sailfish, they are MARLINS! Just go back & look at the fountain if you can’t tell the difference.

    • This popular fishing spot / causeway under the bridge was damaged by the hurricanes, but some people sneaked past the barricades to go out on it anyway.

    • Nearby the walkway under the bridge was this cute baitshop, for your last stop before fishing in the Indian River, from the causeway under the bridge.

    • Stuart, like much of Florida, is one of those blessed spots in the world where orchids can be cultivated outside, something that makes the heart of Alaskan vistors just ache.
    I found these beauties in a local park.

     I've always wondered why people here make their homes so fragile despite many hurricanes. Good that they introduced new building codes now - I just hope it does leave more freedom to architects - hope not all houses will look like that one at Ocean Beach.

     In my inland empire the total destruction to my home was luckily one TV antannae I was going to replace anyway;-) Stuart sounds nice, Fla is full of great places to live and relaxed people;-) Mike
