Santiago Off The Beaten Path
Sort by: Most Recent | Best Rated | Author's Order

Off The Beaten Path: No beaches!!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Chile is a long thin country, with lots of ocean. But Santiago has none. It's next to the Andes, and this country is not as thin as most think.
So if you want beaches (Santiago gets really hot during the summer), you can go to Vina del Mar or Valparaiso. Buses take off every 20 minutes from the bus station, and the trip is 2 hours. It's quite close!!!

  • Mimos are speechless clowns with white faces. If you ever encounter one, he'll probably make fun of you, imitating everything you do. Don't be scared. Give him a coin, and he'll be as happy as the people that are watching how he's teasing you.
As the picture shows, they can even tease car drivers...

Off The Beaten Path: Flea Market
  • Tip Rating:
  • On Sundays, next to the Bellas Artes Museum, there are lots of people that sell all kind of stuff, from clothes to handcraft to animals. And cheap. If you've got no money, at least take a peek. It's always interesting to see what chileans sell and buy.

  • Every Sunday, next to the Bellas Artes Museum, at the Parque Forestal, loads of people gather around different artists, clowns, street theatre and gymnast. There's music, books and nice surroundings. If you don't want to see any of these, you can always sit down and watch the people. You'll have plenty of fun.

There are no yellow buses anymore. The buses are most commonly white and green.
