A cool, fall day with such fall leaves. We walked behind our hotel and went up the 25 minutes at about a 45 degree angle. Small waterfalls along the way. The horse carriages passed us occasionally full of people. If you can manage a steep walk it is so invigorating and meaningful.
At the castle we wished we had taken the bus to the Marian bridge to get the great photos that photographers never forget. We just didn't have time as we wanted to drive to Lucerne later.
We were given english audio phones and pretty much left alone to walk through the castle. I'm sure if it was the busy season we would have had a guide. We walked through the castle and listened to the explanation of each room. I wondered what people thought of the son building a castle higher than his father's castle. Wish we had time for the Schloss (castle) Hohenschwangau tour, but couldn't squeeze it in. We heard it's not quite as beautiful, but more like a real castle.
