| | First time abroad New York City was my first trip abroad - seamlessly organised by my partner to take advantage of Thanksgiving and a unforgettable place to visit as a first-time flyer!
We flew out from Heathrow on a crisp Tuesday morning, with me very excited about the flight! Such beautiful views as we flew into NYC and a lovely American welcomed me to his home city, sunshine sparkling & not cold at all!
We stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel (Madison Avenue) and soon realised that the notorious rudeness of New Yorkers was (alas) true!
Still, with Christmas decorations everywhere who couldn't fail to be enchanted with the city that never sleeps? |
Thanksgiving Our Thanksgiving morning dawned clear, bright & not too cold ... we ventured out later than expected to find a space amongst the millions waiting to see Macy's Parade, grabbed a muffin on the way and ended up waiting in Times Sq at the Swatch store. We loved the balloons ('tho were too far back to see most floats) and were thrilled to be part of the American Thanksgiving tradition. We went for an afternoon stroll up 5th Avenue and down to Langnan's for Thanksgiving dinner (superb - & service was excellent too), then wandered down to Central Park to walk off all that lovely food! Sadly we never made it out that evening - both of us were so worn out, we fell asleep at 7.30! | | |

| | Central Park Having spent my formulative adult years watching Friends, it was only natural I'd be keener than keen to see Central Park! As beautiful as expected, despite it being freezing cold & grey, we did the obligatory tourist-thing of the horse carriage ride through Central Park (yeah right!) and got hopelessly muddled as to which direction we took to get towards Bow Bridge.
However, after a few hours spent with teeth chattering, we found the Oak Room and had a fabulous cocktail in there, specially made to our tastes. Ye olde elegance indeed - now we just need to win the Lottery to ensure we have enough £££s to reserve a suite at the Plaza! |
