Memoirs of Bratislava...

“Through the mist, I walked to the Centrum, on the cobbled passageways, through the narrow streets, strolled around the squares, admired monuments and historic buildings. Visited Churches and Castles, fascinated with pieces of art. Listened to the story and loved the history. Met the friendly people, tasted their food and drank their wine, there in the warm heart of Bratislava...”

“I had never thought of Bratislava as my traveling destination until that day my friend Angelika gave me a beautiful picture of the Slovak capital.

It was truly a good choice, for Bratislava is another beautiful European City.

Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to visit Bratislava, the weather was so cold and it rained so much too for the month of July, yet I could still admire the beautiful Bratislava.

We arrived in Vienna on Friday and left Bratislava on Sunday. Having such a short time we booked a tour so that we could visit the main sites. We covered the following sites: The Government Palace, The Presidential Palace, Bratislava Castle, Devin Castle, The Opera, The Main Square, The Old Town Hall, The Primate’s Palace, St. Michael’s Gate, St. Martin’s Cathedral and other prominent sites in the old Town which I seem to have liked them all.

My favorite is the view of the Danube from the Bratislava Castle, the area surrounding the Devin Castle, the Primate’s Palace and its tapestries and of course the day-to-day life in the old city.

Bratislava besides the history, the culture, the rivers and the mountains, must have the friendliest people on earth. Everyone is so nice, well educated, well mannered, and keen to help even though their English is not so good or they know no English at all. Not to mention our friend Angelika of course for she has made us feel at home and most comfortable in her city.

Again we didn’t have much time to enjoy the night life but we have been out for dinner to two good restaurants, my favorite was Brit, a really good restaurant with a vast menu, good food, quick service and excellent interiors not to mention Circus Barok, the disco ship!, if only we had more energy….

Shopping is really good in Bratislava. We went to Shopping Palace which is a good sized shopping mall with cloths and shoe stores, supermarket, cafeterias and restaurants.

Moving around is easy, Taxis are cheap and almost everywhere. Moving out of Bratislava is also easy and very cheap, from the Bus Station one can choose from a trip to Vienna, Prague, Budapest and so on … we were lucky coming from Vienna, not everyone get to travel the way we did ;) This is another reason why one should visit Bratislava while being in a neighboring country especially if in Vienna for the Vienna airport is only an hour and a few minutes away from the beautiful city of Bratislava.

If you are staying in Bratislava then I can suggest three hotels. If on a low budget then trust the
Astra Hotel . If you want to stay in quite or in the beautiful surroundings of the Devin Castle then it has to be the Devin Hotel and if you are willing to spoil yourself then it has to be the S.A.S Carlton Radisson Hotel.

I have so much to say about Bratislava even though I was only there for the weekend, check out my tips for I will tell you a lot more about Bratislava, then again I’d suggest you come to Bratislava and see for yourself.
