| Sunset in Ghajn Tuffieha - Golden Bay - Malta |
Ghajn Tuffieha or as mostly known Golden Bay, derived from the name of its main bay, is situated in the northern part of the island. Not much is found here in Ghajn Tuffieha but its natural beauty and scenery must be one of a kind.
Whether you fancy a walk in the country side, a day at the beach, a horse ride, a weekend getaway, an ice-cream, fine dining or just watching the sun go down, you can do all of this at Ghajn Tuffieha.
There is plenty of country side where one can take long walks or have picnics. It is also sought after for horse riding schools.
In Ghajn Tuffieha there are two main beaches: Golden Bay and Riviera Beach, the last of which being my most favourite beach in the Maltese Islands.
Golden Bay is the largest, being a sandy beach where one can spend a day a the beach or have bar b ques during the evening. At golden bay there are several snack shops where one can eat and drink and also rent deck chairs and umbrellas. Those who would also like to try some water sports or love to practice water sports, this can be offered at the bay too, such as jet ski, parachuting etc. It is usually crowded in summer full of maltese families and also a lot of tourists.
Riviera Beach is on the other hand more exclusive, being smaller in size and is usually much quieter. There are a few (quite some) steps going down to the beach but once you re there its worth it. Its my favourite beach, simple, small and quiet, where I can relax and watch the sunset.
There is only one hotel in Ghajn Tuffieha, the 5 star, Radisson SAS Golden Sands Resort. Brand new (almost 1 year old), it is ideal for weekend breaks and relaxation. It has quite a large number of rooms, restaurants, coffee/wine bars, while boasting of its large terraces overlooking Golden Bay.
I love Ghajn Tuffieha, mostly in the spring and summer period, the scenery and the beautiful view of the sunset give me a sense of well being. I do suggest visiting this place when you visit the Maltese Islands, a walk in the countryside, horse riding, some water sports at Golden Bay, watching the sunset from Riviera Beach and a pizza or even better fine dining at the Radisson Golden Sands Resort will surely remain a day to remember. |
