  • I am quite unsure of the class rating of the hotel. I was told that it is a 5-star hotel but really it felt more like a 4-star.

Room wise, the two queen-sized beds were a god-sent. It did make the room feel a little less spacious though, since they do take up a sizeable portion of the room after all ;-)

I hated the pillows though. Considering its price and class, usage of cheap foam pillows are really a big no-no and serve to do nothing but give its users a headache literally.

The bathrobes were also a joke as they were made up of some really flimsy material.

There was really not much amenities too. The gym seemed to only consist of threadmills, and while there was a sign proclaiming that the whirlpool was not to be used by children under 12, there were 3 children (all aged below 12) splashing water and swimming within the whirlpool.

Apparently, the staff tending the recreational facilities do not really care too as most of my questions were answered with lazy finger pointing. There was a really small suana, but no steamroom.

Service wise, the staff were pretty mechanical about it and it did felt robotic.

Unique Qualities: The location of the hotel is quite ideal in my opinion. It is located at Cavenagh Road which offers its occupants a little peace and quiet at night, away from the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road, but yet is only like a minute away from it (Orchard Road), so you can leap right into the heart of the action when you feel like it.

  • I have a thing about staying at the hotels in my own country. Hey, if I cannot find the time to get out of my country, at least I try to take a mini holiday within Singapore itself!

Carlton Hotel is located very centrally near the City Hall Area, with close proximity to just about the most important shopping places in Singapore.

Normally I like to indulge a bit in 5-star hotels, but I decided this time round to instead of staying in a normal room in a 5-star hotel, I can actually spend the same amount of money in one of the better rooms in this 4-star hotel and what an excellent idea that was!

The room allocated to me was on the "Club Level", which rooms were not only larger, but their tenants had access to a topfloor clubhouse area with unlimited serving of drinks (throughout the day) and appropriate food during mealtimes. It was actually a good bargain!

Unique Qualities: The facilities were okay and standard. Nice, clean rooms. It could had been better if they had allocated me one on a non-smoking floor, but they were out of it then.
