Bintan is not your typical tourist destination. The nearest town to visit is more than an hour away and and there are not really many points of interest for one to go to.
But what it does offer its visitors is a relaxing experience in a resort island that is surrounded by the amazing South China Sea, noted for its clear azure waters.
As a Singaporean, I guess the best parts of Bintan is that it is only about an hour away from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, and no foreign currency exchange is needed, as the official currency used is actually Singapore dollars.
Because of this as well, some travellers may actually dislike this place because it is designed from ground up to be a tourist resort paradise and so there aren't much exploration available to do. There are only resort and chalets and no backpackers lodge and such. It is also a destination which is more expensive than the typical South-East Asia destination.
Nevertheless, I had a great time there with some of my closest pals. Certainly a great way to spend the Good Friday long weekend! :-)
The blue sky and crystal clear waters are very inviting and is a sight in itself.
Near Banyan Tree Bintan, there is actually a rather secluded beach stretch which is sheltered from the waves by many large rocks. It was really beautiful and serene there. However, it seemed to be only accessible by ocean kayaks or motor crafts and it was not possible to walk there at all.
- Pros:Nice, quiet place with very nice resorts
- Cons:It is basically just a resort island and is quite expensive
- In a nutshell:A heaven for resort and spa visitors
