Quartzsite was once a stagecoach
station and mining community.
The U.S. Cavalry brought camels from the MidEast to use for transportation of supples from California across the desert to this and other small communities. It was a brilliant plan, but scrapped because the cavalry found the camels too hard to maintain. Hi
Jolly, a camel driver from the Mid East, remained here with the camels that the cavalry just turned out into the desert to fend for themselves. He is buried at this site where he was encamped.
- Pros:Mild winter weather with many diversified activities
- Cons:Hot in the summer with very little to do.
