"Tiga, New Caledonia's Most Secretive Island" Île Tiga by drmjalba

I wanted to visit Tiga Island, part of the Loyalty Islands Archipelago, that belongs to the French territory of New Caledonia from the Pacific, but it was no tourist information available from any source. Only Wikipedia gave an approximate idea, describing the island as having an area of 10 sq. km. and 170 inhabitants in 1996.
Why so secretive? A part of the answer is that the islanders keep their traditions, and the outside visitors should be recommended only by the village chief (fr. "petit chef") who lives in Noumea and asks tourists to observe and follow the ancestral local tradition. The tourist needs to call the Office of Tourism in Noumea or the small chief (fr: petit chef) of the village mr. Louis Kouriane at (687) 45 17 83, before travel.
Another part is that there are no tourist accommodations and no tourist activities on this island. The only news is that a villager tries to start a barbeque place for tourists near a beach, but, as small as it may seem, this is no more than an intent and nothing was done.
