The Roots of our Medical Family: Tecuci, Romania | Dr. Ion Jalba (Corod 1881-Nicoresti 1960) |
We are a medical family extended over four generations. My paternal grandfather, Dr. Ion Jalba, was the 1041th graduate of the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine from Bucharest, Romania on December 15, 1908. He was the son of the priest Theodor Jalba (1848-1906), from Corod, Tecuci County, who was the first teacher of the first modern primary school from our county's rural area, opened on October 15, 1863. My grandfather had three sons and everyone was a physician: Dr. Ioan Jalba (1906-1981), Dr. Aurel Jalba (1912-1984), former director of the "Sanepid" from Tecuci and my father, Dr. Theodor Jalba (1918-1999), former director of the Tuberculosis Hospital from Tecuci. Both my father and my mother graduated from the University of Medicine from Iasi, Romania in 1944. In the third generation, I am the only physician. Born in Tecuci in 1953, I started as a freshman at the University of Medicine from Iasi and I graduated in 1980 from the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine from Bucharest. A pulmonologist, like my father, I was a scientific researcher in the field of lung diseases in both Romania and the United States, where I am living. To see more about my accomplishments, please visit my web page at http://www.angelfire.com/ny4/tecuci/Marquis.html In the fourth generation, the only physician is Dr. Daniel Jalba, now living in Canada. He is the nephew of Dr. Ioan Jalba. |
