Kuznetsk Fortress - Old city basis

Old Kuznetsk Fortress was rebuild in 1998.
Kuznetsk Fortress is a place for city holidays, festivals, concerts and exhibitions in the museum and a place to visit by spouses in the memory of the people that has found Novokuznetsk.
Not far from Novokuznetsk, about 80 km, you can visit Mezhdurechensk. Mezhdrurechensk is a famous russian ski and winter sports center.
Novokuznetsk has a good drama theater, a russian circus and a puppets theater which was moved here from Moscow during the Second World War and remained with his roots and traditions forever.
Novokuznetsk-Mettalurg is actually one of the famous russian ice hockey teams of the Russian Supreme Hockey League.

During the history Novokuznetsk changed a lot of names.
From 1618 to 1622 the city was named Kuznetskij Ostrog because the population of its region names kuznetsk's tatars due to their metall elaboration skills.
From 1622 to 1939 the name of the city was Kuznetsk. Fedor Dostoevskij stayed here for political motives and spoused his wife in the Kuznetsk Cathedral.
In 1929 KMK (Kuznetskij Metallurgicheskij Kombinat) was founded and so-called by russian revolution poet Vladimir Mayakovskij Sad-Gorod was created.
In 1931 Sad-gorod was renamed in Novokuznetsk and in 1932 it was renamed in Stalinsk in the name of Iosif Stalin because he stayed in Southern Siberia for 4 years for Russia Empire Court Decision like a political prisoneer. One hypotesis says also that a son of Stalin with family Davydov is still living here. One official Stalin daughter is living in London.
In 1939 old Kuznetsk and Stalinsk were united and a new city was renamed in Stalinsk-Kuznetsk and then again in Stalinsk.
In 1961 the city was renamed again and became Novokuznetsk. Local population names their city Kuznya.
Novokuznetsk Day is celebrated every first Sunday of July.

History of Legendary Novokuznetsk

The city first gained importance 120 years ago when the first mineral resources were found in the Kuzbass Area.
During the times of Stalin, the city was populated and consistently industrialized and expanded to this day into a leading mining centre in the southern Siberia. The city architecture is created during the soviet times.
More than 10 big industrial and energetic complexes are working on the territory of the city and in its region.
Approximately 600,000 people live in Novokuznetsk today.
