My home for 4 years of college...

Greensboro has been referred to, rather unforgivingly, by a friend of mine as a truck stop. Contrary to popular belief and much to my disappointment after having lived here and moved on never realizing it, there are little pockets of culture here. Most of these pockets of culture are associated with the university, be it musical events, theater, the Carolina Film and Video Festival or the Weatherspoon Art Gallery. However, the Carolina Theater in downtown Greensboro is the site of many cultural events, the Greensboro Symphony performs at the War Memorial Auditorium often, there are street festivals that take place on Tate St., there are plenty of international restaurants from Thai to Indian and everywhere in between, there is the Greensboro Arboretum, the botanical gardens, and even the downtown area has gone through some revitalization recently. Another place to be seen at least via drive by glance is the historic Aycock neighborhood close by the university. On further exploration there is an historic battleground way out to the west of Greensboro that is an interesting place to go and a great picnic spot.
However like many cities, it has its places you should avoid and its shortcomings.

Fun pages. Nice of you to mention culture! I played in the Greensboro Symphony for a couple years when we lived in NC. Never saw any of the city, just the inside of the rehearsal hall and concerts. Drove in; drove out but thoroughly enjoyed the folks I worke with.
