To get to Giverny, one must first take the train to a town called Vernon. In Vernon, adjacent to the train station there are cafes that rent bicycles for the more energetic but also there is a much cheaper bus that runs on a schedule. If you have the time and the extra money (10-12 Euros), biking is a great option as it's only about 7km to Giverny. We had neither time nor extra money, as we had to get a train back to Paris that evening. |
| | Arriving in Giverny Once you're dropped off at the bus stop, it's a walk to get anywhere of interest, but not that far of a walk. Be sure to pick up a map at the tourist office across from the bus stop. There's no shortage of things to do in Giverny, even things not related to Monet's house. |
| | Monet's house The gardens in Monet's old home are very well endowed and hence taken care of, almost to the extent that they look nothing, I'm sure, like they did when Monet painted them. Still, nonetheless beautiful, they are worth a visit. You will spend more time touring the gardens than Monet's house. They will not allow you to photograph anything in Monet's home, unless you are aiming your camera out the window at the garden. |
