A have had the honour of visiting friends who live close to Zurich, although in 5 or so visits here we have rarely been in the city ityself., That is because our visits have had a family feel and we have been out and about in the local countryside to check out the great views and brilliant array of outdoor activities in this part of Switzerland.

We usually use public transport from our base, 10 miles from Zurich and it is excellent, better organised than anywhere I have been and incredibly efficient.

We enjoyed the zoo and the towns around the Lake itself gave ample opportunity for cafe stops. There are a lot of parks/playgrounds around which the children will love and these are real playgrounds. The ones where when you fall off because you are daft, it will hurt and you can be over 4 years of age to join in the fun. There also appears to be plenty of swim opportunities in the summer around the lake with water slides that we saw moth balled for the winter.

I can recommend a day at Pilatus make your way to Kriens and travel up the gondola and cable car to the summit for spectacular views. Lots of walking, tobogganing and exploring to be done here.
