Quinta do Logo - close to Almancil!

Quinta do Lago Resort

Welcome to Quinta do Lago
Travelling through Portugal you will notice an array of dusty roadsides, tinderbox dry fields and dried up rivers. Travel to Almancil, around 20 minutes from Faro airport (except we drove from Seville, 2 1/2 hours away don't ask ok!) and follow the signs for Qunta do Lago signposted in orange with white writing. Note to Portugguese tourist board, orange backgrounds fade in the sun and therefore are almost impossible to make out. Anyway 5 miles or so from Almancil you will hit the positive oasis that is Quinta do Lago
NB Cannot get Quinta do Lago on VT yet Almancil is the nearest town.

Quinta do Lago, away from it all

Without doubt this is a holiday retreat - the place is a pupose built resort with manicured lawns and landscaped gardens. Note there are NO HIGH RISES here at all. The highest buildings are the multi million pound villas that you get a glimpse of through the gardens. A real relaxing area. The road through the resort is an array of new town style roundabouts with different appartments, hotels, villas and golf courses neatly tucked away.

Quinta do Lago - the real Portugal?

The dilema of staying somewhere such as this is that are you seeing what really makes that area - well in Quinta do Lago - five miles from the nearest town which main purpose appears to be to serve the local resorts, then Qunita do Lago may be too far from reality. However, this is the Algarve and if you think the real Portugal is somewhere with many high rise blocks, traffic, late night bars and packed beaches then don't come here. Perhaps the largest complement is the number of Portuguese staying here, outnumbering the Brits I would say in my non scientific survey.
Quinta do Lago beach - note no people

Pros:"Away from it all, beaches,"
Cons:"Not on VT! so I had to go via Almancil, expensive restaurants"
In A Nutshell:"It's a great retreat"

Dave, thanks for the tips and photos. Looks like a beautiful, quiet, and secluded place! Best from New Jersey, Bill

I much prefer off the beaten track places. I must admit, the expensive restaurants would put me off, though.
