My hometown Hi everybody! My hometown is The Hague. Though it's not the nicest city I know, it's o.k. living here. You may know The Hague (or you may not) because the government is seated here. The top list of what tourists like in The Hague is: - Scheveningen - Madurodam and Buitenhof But if you want to know what it is that I really like in my city, you should go on and ask me.... |
Familytown Although I live in Holland, my blood is not totally Dutch. One side of my family (my mothersside) lives in Brazil! I've visited Brazil 4 times now, and I really love the country. If you ever get the chance to go over there...take it!! My family sort of lives in the jungle. Some relatives live in Manaus, and some other live in Coari, a little village, one hour flight from Manaus. Coari is very cool too! They don't really use cars, but everything happens by motorcycles, so that's a very funny sight for a dutch girl! |
Typical Dutch food Because I really like the typical dutch food, I'd like to inform you about it, so you will try it, once you get here!
Stroopwafels : these are very thin wafles with stroop (somewhat like caramel) in between. It's very sweet, and especially nice when eaten hot! In most cities, stroopwafels are sold on the streets. Stroop: The stuff that's in Stroopwafels. Stroop comes in different flavours, like just sweet stroop, applestroop and pearstroop. Especially applestroop is nice to put on your pancakes! Look out for your teeth though. Poffertjes: fits in the same category as pancakes. There much heavier on the stomach though! So 12 poffertjes is more than enough to deal with your appetite. Poffertjes are only eaten with a little bit of butter and some powdersugar. (poedersuiker) Hagelslag/vlokken: flakes to put on your bread. They come in all kinds of flavours like brown chocolate, white chocolate, fruit flavours, anis flavour etc. Very very nice! (also nice to put on a cake or something) Patatje oorlog: means french fries in war! If you order this at a snackbar, you'll get french fries with mayonaise and satesaus. And satesaus tastes like spicy warm peanutbutter. Very nice! Old cheese/Young cheese: I've worked in a restaurant for a while and a lot of people didn't know the difference between old and young cheese. Well, old cheese is a little bit spicier and saltier (I prefer the old one), but also more expensive, while the young cheese can be very cheap, but is sometimes tastless. But young cheese is nicer to use in cooking. A good brand of old cheese is Old Amsterdam! |
