The Royal City of broken old teeth - Meroe

The pyramids at the Royal City of Meroe are probably Sudan's most famous tourist site. Charcoal black and strangely square and chunky, these are not at all like the famous Egyptian pyramids at Giza. Seeing them all in a line on his Pole to Pole journey, Michael Palin likened them to a set of jagged, blackened old teeth.
