Carpets and mines

by mafi_moya - last update: Jul 12, 2004

A former synagogue in the old Jewish Quarter
Tinerhir is an industrial mining town near the Todra Gorge. I didn't stay here long but it seemed nice enough and not particularly industrial at all, although it's a lot livelier than many other towns in the region. In fact it's quite pleasant and a good place to spend a night.

The old town and old Jewish quarter (Mellah) are well worth exploring, the maze of narrow alleys being full of kids playing hide and seek. There are some major souks in town twice a week, including a livestock market on Saturdays. Carpet sellers are also out in force and from what I saw this seems a good place to pick up a good deal if you're after a rug. Around the town are green fields and farmland, which make for a nice easy walk in the cool afternoon.
