Molly's is Tel Aviv's only Irish pub, and it's pretty good. It opens at 4pm most week days (noon at weekends) and serves the usual selection of beer (Carlsberg, Guinness etc) and limited Irish style menu (sausage and mash, cottage pie, guinness gravy etc), all accompanied by traditional Irish music. Although the music gets a bit more modern at night when the place starts to fill up with locals, expats and tourists. It's all very traditionally Irish in concept, with wood floors, bar stools and old wooden tables - think all those 'authentic' Irish pubs in England but a bit better. It's a good place to meet people and there's a happy hour from 4pm until 8pm

Right on the beachfront, Mike's Place is one of many similar bars serving cold beers and western food. It stands out with its live music nights, friendly staff and interesting mix of regulars, apparently including a Vietnam veterans society. It suffered a suicide bomb attack last year but the only sign you'll see now is the donation box for the victims - otherwise it's all very laidback. Oh and if you don't like to tip don't bother coming back - as the numerous signs on the bar say, people who don't tip go straight to hell!

Right next door to Mike's Place, the Buzz takes Tel Aviv's 'all night long' motto to heart and stays open 24 hours. So if you're after a beer at 7am, or a hangover cure breakfast, then this is the place to come. It's also pretty cheap (beers at 10NIS until 9pm) and has a good range of drinks (including Staropramen) - although they tasted pretty poor on the one occasion I went. They're very similar really, but I felt Mike's Place had far more character to it.

Joey's is a fun pick-up place where the drunker you are the better. Tequila shots, a busy dancefloor and loud music are what it's all about, with a mixed clientele of older expats, partying tourists, hookers and drunken students. The huge American manager enthusiastically shakes strangers by the hand on arrival, and a big bell is rung to death when someone orders particularly daring drinks - I'm sure you get the idea, with girls dancing on the bar Coyote Ugly style. It's free to get in and the happy hour is buy one get one free. I think it's open until 4 or 5am and there are photos plastered all over the entrance to show you what a good time is to be had.
