Munich - An Unexpected Visit

by Lacristina - last update: Jul 18, 2005

Supposed to be in Italy, Let's Make the Best of It

Karlsplatz Fountain
Bad weather, and more bad weather, topped by airline incompetence and I find myself missing the flight from Phillie to Frankfurt, delayed again, missing the flight from Frankfurt to Munich, and thus missing the last train from Munich to Rovereto, Italy. So I find myself in Munich. Just a few hours on a Saturday evening - need to be up early for a 7:30 train to Italy and finally catch up with my friends who got there THREE DAYS AGO!

Still, it is Munich! There's beer to taste and schnitzel, sauerkraut and dumplings.

And it's a beautiful, cool, clear evening.

Let's go! I head toward the pedestrian old town. And come upon the first of Munich's lions in their Lowenparade (Lions Parade).

Cons:"It's not Italy!"
In A Nutshell:"Great place to visit, even if just for a couple of hours."

Sounds like you found one of the better places to hang out--the Augustiner Bierhalle. I love the fact the wait staff was in costume...

Usually parents can ask at reception to have that stuff turned off. Typically it runs 23 hours a day, from 12 noon to 11 a.m. The first few minutes are free, after that you have to pay. Only the "better" hotels have this feature, for business clients.
