If I am now more open-minded, it's because of my trip to China. Beijing is very unique. There is so many people, it's unbelievable. You really have to be there to know what it feels like. I have never seen that much of bicycles! lol. Seriously, Beijing is the modern life meeting the old one. Even if it's communist, I saw that the country is open to some kind of capitalism. They do not have the choice: the 2008 Olympic Games will be in their city.

The picture(right) is the Tiananmen Place. It's the biggest public place in the world. Also, in 1989, more than 7,000 students, who wanted democracy, were killed. This isn't just a public place, it's the symbol of liberty.

This is the Forbidden City, the most beautiful place I've ever seen! Built in 1421 by the Yongle emperor(Ming dynasty), I could easily imagine the emperor walk with many hundreds of his assistants. It's a magical place where you breathe History. It's so wide, with 100,000 rooms, you must have a map guide! =)

In the south of Beijing, there is the Temple of Heaven, close to the Forbidden City. It was built in 1530. They wanted Beijing to be, also, a ritual center, not only a political capital. There are many temples where Chinese people can pray for good harvests. There is also the Echo Wall. It has the ability to transmit even whispered voices around its length.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:If your passion is history(just like me!), go for it!
  • Cons:A lot of people!!!

HI there, if you check the location page and map, this is not the large city of Beijing, but in fact a smaller town some distance from big Beijing. Would be good to get all pages on the correct location. regards, Pam.

Was Mao's body still on display in Tiananmen Square? I haven't been there for a long time.

I wish I went to your high school so I could stay at 5 star hotels in Beijing! The big company I used to work for booked me in cheaper 4 star joints.
