Welcome to Rome -Our first adventure | Collesseo from a 15 year olds point of view. Tell |
Rome was awesome. We could not have hoped for a better experience for the kids ( and ourselves) I tell everyone I see "you must go to Rome" we need to see more of Italy now and hopefully that wont be too far off. The art, history and people of Rome made our stay there one I am sure I will never forget. You know, since I have been home I have watched our video a hundred times ( and cried nearly everytime) and I have also watched every movie I can find with Rome in it (Even the Olsen Twins and Hillary Duff!!!!)And cried for a different reason ( come on I'm 34 years old man!)
As when I was in Rome I am finding it difficult to find the words to use in describing everything. In our holiday video I appear as quite a simple character a lot like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man because all I do is look around going "ohh woow its great" Words of enough value are hard to find when talking about Rome.
Maybe Rome is a place where words are not needed to describe it but the heart and soul are needed to feel it and believe me Rome imprints itself in your heart. |

| | The reason we went to Rome As a gay women without children I had no idea what I was missing out on until I meet my partner Chris. She has 3 children from her marriage and wow isn't my life different now! It is more fulfilled and significant. Anyway Chris and I always talked about taking the kids overseas to open their eyes to the world and ensure that they know they can and WILL have dreams and all these dreams CAN be achieved. I beleive I love Rome so much because I got to see it through the enthusiasm and gusto of 3 wonderful children. Nathan 15, Jessi-Leigh, 13 and Joshua 11. I beleive they all understood what the holiday was about. The were excited everyday, they appreciated everything they saw ( even if it wasn't their thing) They enjoyed experiencing the culture. Every morning we woke up Nathan had already been up and ready to go, this is the same teenager who could sleep for centuries at home He also went to the pizza shop around the corner everyday and told us the man who runs the store has family in Melbourne, Australia. On the day we left he walked past the pizza shop and went in to tell the guy we were leaving it was so awesome the guy came out and shook his hand and they were like family saying good bye. This old man from Rome and the young man from Australia had connected over pizza. THATS WHAT TRAVELLING AND EXPERIENCING THE WORLD IS ABOUT. Joshua thought he was a male model he bought shirts and jerseys and glasses (you know what every 11 yearold buys) He wants to go back to Rome to do more shopping ????? Jessi was more laid back about things ( you know teenage girls) she did start a "perve file" in her diary to note everytime she saw a cute boy. But every now and then since we have been home she says something about the holiday and I know she got it. I know this may not be the story of Rome you are looking for, but for us it seems that Rome was a place for us not only to learn about and experience the history and culture of the city but to it was a place for us to create our own family history and experience the kids growing up into the wonderful young men and young woman I know they will be. |
We will be back Make no mistake we will return to Rome. If you go to Rome make sure you go with someone to share it with. Share Rome with the people you love. If you are lucky, like me, you will leave a part of your heart in Rome. But you will also take a part of this magnificant city with you. One day if you pray really hard you will return to Rome and join the city and your heart once again. Love Rome! | | |

| Pros: | "Walk everywhere and you will experience so much more" | | Cons: | "can't think of any. Any experiences that weren't great were still experiences we would never have had if we did not go. Once well and truly over charged for lunch but.....food was great anyway. We laugh about it now." | | In A Nutshell: | "A beautiful city that teaches you about its history and culture by just being itself. If you go to Rome you will not feel like a visitor you will feel like a long awaited guest." |
