The best part of I-95 between JAX and DC!

I passed through Richmond, Virginia's capital city, when I was a teenager. We were traveling between our home city of JACKSONVILLE and our vacation destination of WASHINGTON, D.C.. Richmond, like Jacksonville, boasts an impressive downtown skyline of architectural eye candy for motorists to enjoy while passing through on Interstate 95. Unfortunately, the 600 mile stretch of interstate between these two cities offers very little to see. Sure, there's the famously tacky SOUTH OF THE BORDER resort in South Carolina and a few old buildings in nearby Petersburg, Virginia; other than these, however, an occasional smattering of roadside sleep and eat spots are about the best travelers can hope to see to break up the monotony of one of the East Coast's most boring drives. In addition to Richmond's downtown skyscrapers, I-95 also passes by a minor league baseball stadium just north of downtown and an R.J. Reynolds factory -- an ugly building dedicated to an ugly habit -- just to the south.
