"Sunrise & Broward County's Western Frontier" Sunrise by noidiotsplease

Sunrise Travel Guide: 2 reviews and 3 photos

The Sawgrass Expressway is one in a chain of highways that serve as a stark dividing line between the densely developed suburban landscape of Greater Ft. Lauderdale and the preserved wildlife management district lands of the Everglades. While several communities blend together east of the expressway, Sunrise stands out not as the biggest, but as the most noteworthy.

Sunrise bursts with subdivisions and commercial areas that seamlessly blend in with neighboring overgrown suburbs like
Plantation, but it also is home to the BankAtlantic Center, home ice of the NHL's Florida Panthers. Across the street from the arena, Sawgrass Mills is one of the most popular non-beach attractions in Broward County. Sawgrass Mills is a very large indoor/outdoor outlet mall that sports destination restaurants like Hard Rock Cafe and Rainforest Cafe. Unfortunately, when I visited the mall back in 2003, it seemed to me to be much ado about nothing. I suppose die-hard outlet mall shoppers would love it. I just thought it was a rather ugly mall that, due to design flaws with its indoor/outdoor configuration, seemed to be stifling in wings where the air conditioning just did not seem to work properly. That said, I wouldn't recommend Sawgrass Mills, but perhaps I was just there on a bad day.

Sunrise is a part of greater
FORT LAUDERDALE.
