Madrid, Seville and Barcelona are as different as three cities can be (similar in difference to New York, Miami and San Francisco). Madrid provided a king's welcoming with a festive nightlife and the amazing Prado - the museum really trumpets the triumphs of Spanish pre-modern art - as well as Picasso's "Guernica", which contains so much that even a good reproduction can't capture. Seville had all the Moorish richness with, incredible flamenco performances and the ceramics in Triana across the Guadalquivir. And Barcelona was the European-influenced showcase of Gaudi, and it seems so many other modern masters.
Gaudi's life-defining work is actually missing what I consider to be its heart and soul: the stained glass windows that give a cathedral its color and reflections. The rose window frames are in place, but it may be another few decades before they are filled.
