"Livonian Order Castle town" Jaunpils by niamey00

Jaunpils is located about 35 kilometers south of Tukums. The town's claim to fame is the Livonian Order castle, built in 1301, destroyed by the Swedes in 1625, and rebuilt by the Soviets, who used it as a stallion farm, and later as an experimental cattle breeding station.
Today you will find a small museum, a hotel, and restaurant within the walls of the castle.
It is a pleasant town to stroll around. Not too much to do, but in beautiful, serene surroundings.
