"A day in Luxor" Luxor by niamey00

After a few days in Sharm el-Sheikh, we wanted to get out and see some of the "real" Egypt. The Russian/Latvian tour group that we came to Egypt with from Riga offered an all-day tour of Luxor. It consisted of a 4:15 am pick-up at our hotel, an early morning flight to Luxor, a tour of some of the main highlights of Luxor (including some unavoidable stops to purchase tacky souvenirs), lunch at the Hilton, and an evening flight back to Sharm. It was a full day, especially with an almost two-tear-old, but well worth it. We don't really speak Russian, so we didn't get that much out of the talks, but we did have our English guide books. For some reason the Russian tour was much cheaper than those in French or German or Italian. Our tour company offered it in those languages too, but the price was about $70 more per person!

Gabriel at the Valley of the Kings

Gabriel was a real hit in Egypt. Egyptians really love children, especially boys. Luckily, Gabriel is an outgoing kid, so he didn't mind being picked up by strangers and whisked away to kitchens in restaurants, or carried through tombs and temples.

Hieroglyphs at Karnak

The highlight of our day in Luxor was Karnak. Words fail. It is simply awe-inspiring. We could of spent hours wandering through the site, but unfortunately we didn't have that much time.
