I actually live and work in West Cork, my visits to the city are not very frequent, however, I love to go up to the city and chill out. There are lots of things to do and places to see in Cork and ofcourse there is shopping and lunches etc...
The English market is a covered over market space, full of stalls and always busy. I am not sure what the history of it is, will try and find out more, but it is defenitely a place to visit. You can access it from both Patrick street (which is the main street in Cork), and from the Grand Parade. Cork has many corners full of atmosphere, this is one of those places.
It is a wonderful summer here in Ireland this year! (it does not happen every year). Cork city is preparing for becoming the Cultural city of Europe for the year 2005.......
This is looking from Patrick street up to Patrick's Hill, a steep hill with a mighty view from the top.
- Pros:Small enough to be really cosy, large enough for an interesting day of "soaking up culture" or doing some serious shopping!
- Cons:At the moment, all the roadworks are tiresome.
- In a nutshell:Soaked in its history - a terrificly interesting place!

A lovely place to stroll around the streets.
What a lively place with so much to see and do! Enjoyed the little tour very much.
When I visited Cork in August the sky was as blue as in your pictures.
Many years now since I was in Cork - we honeymooned in Ireland. I feel I know the city well though - a very, very dear friend came from there ... the tales she told of her childhood home! Nice to "see' it through your photos. leyle
