Country Basics | fishing shack in the Caribbean |
Belize is located in Central America bordering Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. The country is governed by the parliamentary democracy and Queen Elizabeth is the chief of state. The most widely spoken language is English, although I was glad to also know Spanish, as it came in handy. When I visited, the Belizean dollar, was about 2:1 American dollars.
The first portion of my trip was spent on the island of San Pedro, and the second half of the trip was spent in San Ignacio. San Pedro offered a beach paradise, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. San Ignacio is located in a mountainous region forested with lush tropical jungle. |
