We had a pleasant week in Ayr in Sept 2005, staying at the Caravan Club Site which is situated right in the Town (but feels like the countryside).
* Visit to Brig O Doon/Tam O' Shanter Experience
* Carrick Hill
* Cycle ride
* Park at sea front
* Fish & chips at the Wellington
* Walks along the headland at Troon
* Walk along the beach at Irvine
* Visit small fishing port of Dunure
(see tips for more details)
- Pros:Sea side, great childrens park, riverside walks/cyc;ls
- Cons:watch out for the boy-racers on the sea front!
- In a nutshell:Pleasant Scottish sea-side town

nice page with very useful tips. good job mate.
If anyone is up this way and they have a few days or more - it is well worth going up the coast to Ardrossan and getting a ferry accross to the Isle of Arran (it is very scenic and there are things to see and do here)
