The Great White North
I live in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories of Canada. We're situated on the north shore of the Great Slave Lake, one of the ten largest lakes in the world. The nearest "big" city is Edmonton, Alberta which is 1500 km. south of here.
Yellowknife is relatively new, having been around since the 1930's when the first gold mines were opened. They say that here "The gold is paved with streets!" But not so much anymore. Recently diamonds were discovered about 350 km. north east of here, so now there are 2 diamond mines on the go, with more planned in the near future.
