"Home is the safe haven everyone should have!" JSki's Profile
It has been quite some time since I have updated all of my pages. Sometimes life just gets in the way of us having fun and taking the time to travel and enjoy all that life has to offer. I am now living in Germantown, MD a town about a half hour northwest of Washington, DC. Moved here June 2011 and are still exploring the area but have absolutely fallen in love with Washington, DC. The rich history, fantastic buildings to explore and photograph. So much is free so just making a day of it is easy. Have also explored a bit of Virginia, more for work than anything but hope to see more of it as time goes on. Never thought I would move back up north but a job opportunity was too good to pass up. I will try to create many a Washington DC page very soon. I've lived my places in my life. Being born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, lived in Cape May, New Jersey (TWICE), Petaluma California for a short spell, Wisconsin (twice or three times), Miami Florida, just north of Baltimore Maryland, Orlando Florida and now Germantown.
I am blessed with a fantastic daughter, and fellow travel bud. We usually leave our beloved Corgi, Dixie, home with my folks. I've seen folks travel with their pets but we typically like to travel freely with a list of things or places we would like to do but no real schedule. Except for our trip last Christmas/New Years 2007/08, I had places planned and some events as well. Simply because we wanted to do and see so much that without a plan, we would have no idea what was and wasn't possible. I had as much fun planning that trip as it was taking it. I'm still working on those pages but hope to get them done this week. I can't bring myself to ever delete this posting. In March 2011 our beloved Dixie passed on. I still miss her every day.
I'll do plenty of travel ideas and recommendations for the Orlando area but obviously us locals don't live at the attractions. Orlando is also famous for being the World's Lightening Capital. Most people don't know that. The months of June/July/August are filled with the most incredible storms you will ever experience. They can pop out of no where but never ruin an entire day. Along with these storms comes beautiful rainbows. Here's a shot of a rare captured double rainbow. I think rainbows should always be appreciated. They are God's way of coloring the sky when you least expect it.
One of the most important things we do in Orlando is the annual Race for the Cure with Susan G Komen in an effort to raise funds for Breast Cancer research and aid in finding a cure. This has become an annual Mom and Daughter event for us and this year a few of our friends are joining us. We vow to continue to do this until a cure is found once and for all. One in seven women will be stricken with this horrible disease at one time in their life. Please get involved in this great cause in your own area. Or click here and you can even support us in the 2008 walk!
Our Corgi, Dixie, threw a party when last we went away. She had a luau but even that would not cheer her up from missing us so much.
We are music and movie nuts. We frequently go to concerts. Orlando has so many great venue's to see a concert. For a larger scale concert the best place to go is UCF (University of Central Florida) campus. We've seen Michael Buble there, my personal favorite, and a really big concert of Gym Class Heroes, Cute is What We Air For, Plain White Ts, And the Main Event...Fall Out Boy. All were really great. Biggest surprise for me was Gym Class Heroes. They put on a great show and appealed to kids and the parents alike. On a smaller scale venue is House of Blues located at Downtown Disney, this is a fantastic place to see a concert. We recently saw Motion City Soundtrack, Phantom Planet, Hush Sound and then the main event was Panic at the Disco. I had never heard of Hush Sound but they were great. PATD put on an excellent show! I'm so looking forward to seeing Jason Mraz at HOB this December. I could listen and look at him forever. Not to mention he has such a great clean voice and wonderful style.
Have seen him three times now. He's awesome!!
