City Hall: Take the elevator up the Clock Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • It's quite difficult to miss the City Hall when you're in the city but you may miss the best part of it - the free elevator ride up the Clock Tower. Not only you can view the city from a high angle for free, the elevator ride itself is so much fun and enjoyable.

To get to the clock tower, you need to take 2 elevators. The first one is a bit hidden. I couldn't find it until I asked the info desk. It takes you up to a level with some display telling you about the history of the city hall, where you can take the second elevator (a really old one) furture up. This one is really old but cool and it's operated by an operator.

'Oh no! I still wanna make some pics, why it runs so fast?!'... (ooopss, excuse me ;) )

Brisbane Botanical Gardens: Make a nice walk thro' the Botanic Garden
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Botanic Garden is not far away from other attractions in the city, so we decided to walk through it.

There is a bike hire counter but the rent seems not cheap. We explored the park on foot and spent quite a long time on the ponds where lots of ducks/swimming birds were having fun. Their behavior was really funny.

    CAUTION!
If you're with some food, watch out! The birds are really hungry and will definitely attack you!!!

St. John's Cathedral: A silent night...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Brisbane St. John's Cathedral
  • The side door - St. John Cathedral.

  • I don't have any religious belief but I like visiting cathedrals. For me, the buildings are a piece of art - most cathedrals possess amazing architectural designs, which make me love visiting cathedrals.

There are several cathedrals in Brisbane. St John Cathedral is a comparatively larger one. When we arrived, that's already around 6p.m. but there was a service on-going. We joined and found that's a prayer section for the victims of the first bomb attack in London... it's sad.

Mt Cootha: Let's go high... in altitude!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Mt Cootha provides you a different angle of seeing the city. To stay away from tourist groups, go there in the early morning!

Apart from the viewing platform, there are several friendly trails for some easy hiking. We picked a short one leading to a waterfall but it's so dry and small... I was really disappointed : (

Story Bridge: It's a steel cantilever bridge - Story Bridge
  • Tip Rating:
  • Brisbane Story Bridge
  • Story Bridge glowing over Brisbane
  • River.

  • Brisbane is a city of bridges. There are four bridges crossing Brisbane River, namely William Jolly Bridge, Victoria Bridge, Goodwill Bridge and Story Bridge. They are of different structural forms and materials. For example, William Jolly Bridge is an arch structure while Story Bridge is a steel cantilever bridge.

One of the reasons I love Brisbane so much is its bridges and the river. Right, I'm crazy about bridges.

Among all the bridges, I love Story Bridge the most. It's just gorgeous at night. Go to Riverside Pier and feel how I feel.

Things To Do: It's built by local students - Goodwill Bridge

  • Goodwill Bridge is a pedestrian bridge which allows cycling. It's a steel arch structure, giving a hi-tech feeling. The most amazing thing about the bridge was that it's designed by the civil engineering students from a local university.

(I'm really jealous of them!!! ... my first summer project was only the construction of a R.C. T-beam... )

Mt Cootha Botanical Gardens: Mt Cootha Botanic Garden
  • Tip Rating:
  • On the way back from Mt Cootha, we visited the Botanic Garden. There are many species of plants and colourful flowers, some of which look really funny or even weird. It's an interesting walk!!!

    Treasury Casino: Conrad Treasury Casino
  • Tip Rating:
  • Brisbane Treasury Casino
  • Like a museum more than a casino!
  • by backpackerbaby

  • On the night I arrived in Brisbane, most places were closed apart from some restaurants and this casino. Since my friends got the member cards, they could get free drinks inside the casino. So I was there, watching people gambling their lives away while enjoying my free cup of hot mocha. There is a balcony outside the gambling machine area, that's the best place of the building... for us.

Nice page Hero. Not many go up the old Council Tower. ( Sorry but the Storey bridge isn't a suspension bridge, the centre is just a simple span between 2 cantilever ends)

Nice page, Hero :-) Brisbane is my next stop - looks like a nice city! I'll keep an eye out for the killer ducks in the Botanical Gardens, though! ;-)
