A Great Adventure

by backpackerbaby - last update: Feb 29, 2004

Galata Tower @ night.
Amazing night view at Ortakoy.
After spending a day in Pamukkale and 2 days in Selcuk/Efes, we headed to our last destination of this trip in Turkey - istanbul.

I was so excited, always thinking about how would our count-down be on New Year's Eve in this lovely country.

I had mixed feeling on the night bus from Selcuk to istanbul. On one hand, I hoped the bus driver could drive faster and let us arrive the city earlier. On the other hand, I hoped the time could stay and let our holiday extend a bit longer.

After a 10-hour bus journey, we arrived the otogar of istanbul. Wow, the traffic was really busy even in the early morning!
On a ferry from Eminonu to the Asian Shore.

A Shocking Greeting

We got off the dolmus at the park near Blue Mosque, which is very close to the hostel (Orient Youth Hostel) we reserved. When we were locating ourselves with our map, a guy came to us and asked, 'Come to stay in our hostel.', we rejected politely by saying,'Thank you but we've reserved 2 beds already.'

Guess his response???
'Ok, fine.'?
'Enjoy your stay here then.'?
'Oh, maybe you can try our hostel the next day?' ?
or just no response?

Sorry, none of the above!
He said, 'F$#k off'!!!! and then went away.
Wow, it's really to our surprise! It's around 9a.m. in the morning. Cool! It's really a 'refreshing' morning...

From that moment, I started to worry, 'What will happen to us in the following days?'

Wow, that was a very untypical response you got for refusing that hostel guy (or should I in this case say HOSTILE?), we had a wonderful and friendly time in Istanbul.
