One of the four Dragons in Asia

Finally...

The Merlion in front of the gorgeous Fullerton.
I was there. Singapore was one of my stops in my 11-day Easter backpacking trip. Actually, my main destination for this lovely vacation was Langkawi. Owing to the unbelievably high air-tic price offered by Malaysia Airline in HK, I couldn't afford to fly directly to either KL or Langkawi. Luckily, I read some VTers' pages and learnt that I could go to KL from Singapore CHEAPLY by bus and from KL to Langkawi QUICKLY & CHEAPLY by flight. Then, I booked the tic to Singapore, which was around HK$1000 and HK$1800 cheaper than flying to KL and Langkawi respectively. I started planning my Singapore trip.

I have never thought of backpacking to Singapore before. Probably because there was too much comparison between Singapore and HK before, I always thought that they were similar places. It's nice to have a short stop here. At least I could prove whether it's really that clean. I remember when I was in primary school, my teacher talked about Singapore in the class. "In Singapore, you can't find any litter/rubbish on the streets, everywhere is clean. Chewing gum is forbidden. The penalty is very high if you don't obey the law."

Now, I know the truth...
A lovely mosque in Little India.

Little India

I'm sure that this lovely part of Singapore is not in the itinerary of most tours. If you visit Singapore on your own, you MUST go to Little India. It's so great that my hostel (see my accommodation tips) was in this area, I could see the different faces of the area both in the day and at night.

The small colourful buildings in the areas are just amazing. I couldn't imagine that such beautiful buildings can be found in Singapore, so unforgettable.
Colourful buildings in Arab Street area.

Arab Street

Another place that you can't miss is the area around Arab Street. Like Little India, there are also lots of colourful buildings. They look so peaceful in the day.

the lift at New 7th Storey is really vintage. The staff are really friendly when we went over to check out their rooms.
