Street Food: Don't Miss the Crispy Deep-Fried Insects!!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: U can buy from the Street Hawkers

Description by words is not enough, it's really worth trying different species of deep fried insects (or probably amphibians) such as cockroaches, ants, bees, baby frogs and lots more in Bangkok.

Street hawkers selling fried insects can be found nearly in every street markets, it's just so common for the locals to eat them... maybe they are the Thai-version of pop-corn~!

Favorite Dish: 'They are so crispy and taste salty, if you close your eyes when putting them in your mouth, you'll probably not realize that you're eating some insects!', said my friend.

hee, I didn't eat any of them as they were just too lovely to be put in my mouth~! Maybe I wasn't brave enough.... >.<

It's really worth trying!!! Dun miss your chance!

Somboon Seafood Restaurant: Famous Thai Seafood Restaurant
  • Tip Rating:

  • Bangkok Somboon Seafood Restaurant
  • Curry Shrimps - tasty but a bit
  • oily~

  • Restaurant Name: Somboon Seafood Restaurant

As recommended by Lonely Planet, we went to this restaurant on the last night of our stay.

    We ordered:
-Tung Yum Gung (Thai Style Hot & Sour Shrimp Soup)
-Thot Man Pla (Fried Fish Cakes)
    -Curry Prawns and
    - Phat Thai (Thai Fried Noodles)

Actually, Curry Crabs should be the most famous from this restaurant but due to our poor skills in handling crabs when eating, we ordered prawns instead. The prawns were quite large and tasty, however, the sauce was too oily for us (a layer of oil could be seen on the top of the sauce and therefore we couldn't eat our noodles with the tasty sauce together >.<). The fish cakes were very tasty.

The restaurant does not have much decoration but don't worry, it's heavily air-conditioned. The staff was very friendly to us even we sat there for some time after our dinner.

Favorite Dish: Tung Yum Gung (Thai Style Hot & Sour Shrimp Soup) - it's forever my favourite Thai flavour!

Serving in a heating pot (as shown in the photo), the soup just gave me the hottest feeling I've ever had when eating this soup!!! I really liked it the most and it's worth trying even if you dun/can't eat spicy/hot food.

One of my all time favourite places. But I've not been as adventurous as you with the food. I kept away from the insects. Nice page and nice pics.
