The mysterious charm of Langkawi Someone said, 'If you go to Langkawi, you'll either stay there forever without coming back or you'll go there again and again.'
She's so right. Langkawi really has the charm to retain your soul and your body. |
| | Beautiful Beaches... yeah, that's the main reason why I chose Langkawi as the main destination of my Easter vacation. I longed for lying on a beautiful beach, kissing with the sun for my holiday. Phuket was my original option but THANKS to the Phuket-lovers in HK, I couldn't book a ticket even a month in advance! Indeed, I was very happy about this, as I'm not the only crazy traveller in HK.
Upon arrival in Langkawi, I was happier and more thankful that I couldn't get to Phuket -- I was in a real paradise! The beautiful Langkawi!!!! |
| | Apart from the beaches... On Langkawi, you'll either have nothing or too many to do.
Most people enjoy lazying under the sun on the beautiful beaches. Those who like watersports can go water-skiing, jet-skiing, canoeing, paddeling or snorkelling. Those who like adventure can go hiking, either to different famous waterfalls or to some hidden mangrooves. Those who like sight-seeing can get a ride on the lovely cable-car.
In my opinion, renting a car to drive around the island is a must. Due to its duty-free status, petrol is very cheap. RM25 of petrol is enough for two full days of driving! Driving on Langkawi is like driving through a safari. You can see different wildlives on the way. Have you seen any BUFFALOES in your life? I've seen lots of them here!!! In the day, they gather together on some grassland/farmland. At night, they walk slowly along the road, right next to your car!!! Observe the skin colours of the buffaloes, in rainy seasons when they are clean, it's not difficult to see PINK buffaloes!
Apart from buffaloes, there are lots of 'monkey-like' animals (don't know the correct name) around. Sometimes, they run across the road fastly. Sometimes, they crawl along the overhead cables above you. Therefore, slow driving is advisable for the safety of both the wildlives and ourselves. I was so sad when I saw the dead body of a 'monkey' lying in the middle of the road.
There are also eagles over the water. You can join an island-hopping tour to have a closer look at these fiercing birds.
It's really a wonderful experience to stay on this island for 6 days. I gained far more than what I had expected. It's not too touristy yet. However, several construction sites for beach resorts were seen during my stay. Will Langkawi be ruined because of the over-promoted tourism? I hope not, sincerely.
Let's preserve this wonderful island together. Let it be beautiful forever. Keep it clean and let the animals free.
Langkawi - the island of miracle, the island of love. |
