"I Love Backpacking!!!" backpackerbaby's Profile
The clock is ticking
What a negative headline! Yet, we all only live once. Why not make your life interesting and memorable when you are still breathing?
I've stopped updating my travel pages for a long time, one reason is that there have been to many travel pages in the net already. In the age of 'information overload', who cares what a backpacker experiences on her road?
These days, in addition to my feet, my hands somehow started to get itchy. Instead of updating status in the social network, perhaps I should pick up my passion for travel-writing again.
Hopefully one day, my dream of being a part-time freelance photojournalist will come true. (Haven't you heard of a part-time dream job? hahaha :P)

For no reasons, I don't like animals - especially those with fur or thick hair. No matter how lovely a puppy is, it just can't draw my attention. I'll just walk away.
However, Koala is an exception, the only exception perhaps. When I was a kid, I like eating "Lotte Koala Chocolate Biscuits" - biscuits with lovely chocolate filling and of course cutie koalas, in different poses. Probably my impression of koalas - the cutie animal - developed from then.
How could I miss visiting this lovely animal during my stay in Australia? I tried searching for some wild ones but was not sucessful, until....
Believe it or not?! I saw more than 130 koalas in one morning, yes, 130!!!! They're so cute, so lovely but also so sleepy ; ) Anyway, the most exciting was that I saw a family of 3 - a mother, a kid and a baby... I was so so so happy!!!

She is crazy about travelling and her hobby is searching for cheap flights departing from Hong Kong. She visited most of the European countries in her university time and witnessed the power of the Euro from 1 Euro equalled HK$6.8 to HK$10.5! Among the European countries she visited, she likes Santorini, Prague, Lauterburnnen and Cornwall the most. After graduation, she suddenly realized the importance of Vitamin D to her health and fell in love with different beaches in South East Asia. Till now, Pulau Perhentian Besar is her ideal paradise. After travelling eight times to Europe, she believed that it's the right time to explore another continent. One day, she suddenly decided to make a solo backpacking trip to Australia. In Australia, her eyes were widely opened and she decided to return, hopefully on a working visa. Recently, she did revisit Australia and found the most beautiful part of the continent - the Red Centre.
She is specialized in travelling on tight budget. She is experienced in sleeping under any conditions, such as at London Heathrow Airport, on the beach of Mykonos, on the sundeck of the ferry from Italy to Greece, at Singapore Airport etc. She was welcomed by the locals of most countries, people in Bangkok spoke Thai to her while those in Malaysia spoke Malay to her simply because they thought she was a local. haha, her friends always suggest her considering skin whitening.
Of course, there is no guarantee to meet nice locals in every location, her bad experience included: in Istanbul, a young Turkish hostel guy asked her to fxxk off when she was just reading a map at 0830 in the street and another Turkish guy came to her and said "I hate Chinese" when she was outside the Blue Mosque. "Well, it's really a cultural difference!", she thought.
No matter how difficult it is for her to plan/make a backpacking trip, nothing can stop her from travelling. If you see her wandering around in your neighbourhood one day, do say hi to her.
Do you know that travelling can be done in a budget yet enjoyable way?
Do you know that travelling is not the only right of the rich?
Most people (at least most of those around me) don't travel because they think they are not rich enough. They even prefer spending their precious annual leave (normally 12 days per year in HK, really precious here!!!) at home, either sleeping or doing nothing.
'If they know the magic of backpacking, their lives can be different,' I believe.
Wanna go travelling? Go ahead!
Just need to secure the money for a return ticket, for sleeping in a hostel, for local transportation/local food and a little bit more for emercency use, then you can start packing!
No need for joining any LUXURIOUS but routine tours, no need for staying in any GRAND hotels (remember, you just need a few hours sleep and a hot shower!), no need to go out by TAXI (remember, walking enables you to see every corner of your destination), no need to eat at HIGH-CLASS restaurants (eating in the local way sounds more interesting!). More importantly, no need to do big shopping (the purpose of travelling is to see, to enjoy and to relax but not to shop~!).
The money you saved from travelling by backpacking instead of joining a tour/travelling in a luxurious way can probably be enough for your next backpacking trip!!!
Tour? No way!
Enjoy travelling, enjoy backpacking!
Make good use of what you have, get the utmost satisfaction and enjoyment!!!
Travel more often when you're still young. Cash poor? No problem! We're time rich!

An Encouraging Request
The picture on the left was taken outside my room during my stay at Tunabay Resort on Perhentian Besar Island in late September 2004. This was the best shot of the trip. I sent it back to the manager of Tunabay after back home and he told me that he'd like to use this picture in the new Tunabay website. And surprisingly, he asked for more pictures from me!!! It's encouraging, isn't it?
I told him that it would be nicer if he could put 'photo taken by backpackerbaby from Hong Kong'. He didn't say yes or no. But I would really appreciate it if he will in the end. Let's see. Perhaps he won't use my picture in the end.
The most amazing criterion of travelling is that people of different nations are linked together at certain moments. Don't you agree?
I like photography, which is the best language to communicate with different people.
The picture on the left was taken through the window of a kindergarten on Perhentian Kecil Island. I like playing with kids. They are perhaps the only ones who always show you the truth, the only ones whose smiles are the most real.
Hey, if you're interested in my pictures, please let me know. It's always encouraging to know that my friends like the pictures taken by me. Please don't use/copy my pictures without telling me.
