Route 62

by glennkasner - last update: Dec 23, 2003

Ronnies Sex Shop

Ronnie painted the name "Ronnie's Shop" on this cottage next to the R62, planning to open a farm stall to sell fresh produce and fruit. His friends played a prank on him by changing the name to "Ronnie's Sex Shop". Initially angry about the involuntary name change, Ronnie left the name and continued fixing the dilapidated building. His friends would stop by for a chat, having a few beers and throwing a couple of chops on the fire. During one of these evenings, someone suggested: "Why don't you just open a pub?"

Route 62

An alternative route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth is Route 62.
This route takes you through the agricultural rural areas of Rawsonville, well known for it's fine wines, Robertson, situated in one of South Africa's most beautiful valleys, renowned for its wines of connoisseur quality, radiant roses and thoroughbred horses.
Then it's on to Barrydale situated between two extremes. On the one side is the beautiful and fertile Tradouw Valley and on the other side you are faced with the stark and semi-arid Klein Karoo.
Continue on through Calitsdorp to world renown Oudtshoorn, famous for it's ostrich industry , Cango Caves, and view the cheetahs and crocodiles at the Cango wildlife ranch.
Venture on to the stretch of road reputed to be haunted by a lonely woman hitch hiker until you reach Uniondale and then on to the coastal city of Port Elizabeth

Great transportation tips - so many visitors don't realise the number of options available for travelling around South Africa. Gillybob greetings

Good intro. I just bet Port Nolloth does have a large police force...lol Looks a great area to visit. No shortage of transport but the Bazbus sounds a good deal.
