Africa will always be the Africa of the Victorian atlas, the blank unexplored continent, the shape of the human heart.

Planning a trip of any kind to South Africa?
May I suggest you contact Maritha at Winners Tours to assist you with your requirements.
They have been awarded the contract to do the land arrangements for the 2008 IPU (Inter-Parliamentary Union) conference to be held in Cape Town later this year. Placing 2000+ delegates into beds takes some doing

    Sports Travel: Beneath the surface
  • Tip Rating:
  • Theme: Scuba Diving

Although many divers bemoan the cold water of Cape Town, it is the kelp beds that thrive in the cold water that give the coast such a rich diversity of sea life. Justin's Cave on the Atlantic side and Castle Rocks in False Bay are rated as some of the best. If you're boat-diving, the five wrecks (sunk deliberately between 1972 and 1983 to form artificial reefs) in Smitswinkel Bay are colourful and a haven for marine life.

If you're after a thrill, you can also dive in the predator tank at the Aquarium in Cape Town, where you can get up close and personal with ragged tooth sharks and a variety of large fish.

    Equipment: SCUBA gear

Sports Travel: Ride the wind and the waves
  • Tip Rating:
  • Theme: Extreme Sports

If there's one thing Cape Town has an abundance of it's wind. Combine this with the fact that we are virtually surrounded by ocean and you get near perfect conditions for the rapidly growing sport - kitesurfing

Equipment: Bring your own or hire locally.

The annual Argus / Pick n Pay cycle tour (simply known as the "Argus") is the worlds largest individually timed sporting event attracting some 38000 entrants annually. It certainly is an event for all, whether you are a novice or a professional.
A certain amount of fitness is required and entrants are categorised according to their experience.
The event is held on the second Sunday in March each year and attracts participants from all corners of the globe.
Its origin can be traced back to 1978 when only 525 cyclists started the race (446 finished) known as the "Big Ride - In", aimed at creating awareness for the necessity for cycle paths.
The name was changed to "The Argus cycle tour" when a local newspaper took over sponsorship

Equipment: Your bicycle or anything pedal powered with wheels, brakes and a saddle!

This club doesn't exist anymore for about 5 years! There is a new drumming venue called Drum Mania every Wednesday just off Hope Street in Gardens. Here is the website for details: www.drummania.co.za
