A brief history

Waenhuiskrans (wagon shed cliff) gets it's name from a nearby cave only accessible through a small hole at low tide. Once inside one is surprised by the size of the cave ( the size of a wagon shed) and it's only other access , a huge mouth on the seaward side.
The town is also known as Arniston, the name of a British transport ship that was wrecked there in the 1800's with the loss of more than 300 lives.

The community

Waenhuiskrans today is home to a small fishing community. Theit brightly painted boats (chukkies) put to sea early each morning to reap the harvest of the sea.

The town

The town is characterised by its quaint small white washed fishermans cottages
