Waenhuiskrans (wagon shed cliff) gets it's name from a nearby cave only accessible through a small hole at low tide. Once inside one is surprised by the size of the cave ( the size of a wagon shed) and it's only other access , a huge mouth on the seaward side. The town is also known as Arniston, the name of a British transport ship that was wrecked there in the 1800's with the loss of more than 300 lives. |
