This fabulous medieval city is more than 2,000 years old. If you're staying in Madrid, don't miss a chance to take a day trip to Toledo on one of the many charter bus lines. There's something very exciting about walking the ancient narrow streets and passageways, but if you venture on your own, be careful - it's easy to get lost and you don't want to miss your ride back to Madrid! There's a fortress to explore, as well as the Cathedral, which houses many masterpiece paintings. The Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca is another historical point of interest. Visit the many metalworking shops for a unique souvenir.

If there is anything to do in this small town besides visit the windmills on the hills, then we totally missed it. Our guidebook had advised buying some of the local pottery, which actually turned out to be quite commonplace and apparently was ONLY available at the town taxidermist's! (But I still have mine as a fun reminder of the adventure.) So stand on the hillside and call out...'my lady Dulcinea!'...

From the tiled, undulating benches for people-watching, to the hanging stone balconies, there are many special and surprising details to see.
