I love Copenhagen! This really has nothing to do with any of the tips that I'm giving on this page, but rather a lot to do with the people. They may not be super welcoming at first glance, but the warmth they exude after you have spent some time with them is amazing. Don't despair, though, if you think you won't have time to experience that in the short while you may be staying; all you have to do is go to Nyhavn during summer, any sporting event any time, any sort of celebration, or simply enjoy a Carlsberg with the rest of the Danes and I believe you will see what I mean!
I definitely think the city is most charming during late spring and summer, as well as just around christmas time. Winters here can be a bit too long, since it rarely snows, and when it does it melts very quickly, and the streets and scenery can look grey and dreary, especially because the days are so short during winter time. Danes are really good at creating a cozy atmosphere when there is none, though, so if you do come here during winter, I'm sure you will find some true Danish atmosphere---you'll just have to find it indoors.
The myth is that scandinavians (or maybe even all north-europeans) are closed up people, hard to get to know, quiet.....and I guess you're expecting me to say that that's all it is: a myth. But I can't quite say that because I do strongly believe that if you put an Italian guy and a danish guy next to a tourist in their own home country, the dane won't talk to the tourist, while the Italian often will. It's just a fact. It doesn't mean that Danes don't want to talk to the tourist, though, it's just that there's more of a culture for minding your own business here. So if you want to talk to Danes, don't be scared to ask them for information-they will more than likely be really happy to help you, probably even more so than people in other countries simply because they're not as used to it, and will enjoy that rush of feeling that they're useful...Pretty much all Danes speak English and most speak it fairly well. A lot of them also speak German. So don't be scared to ask people even if they seem like they might not be friendly. They are!
- Pros:wonderful atmosphere, good nightlife, safe and friendly city
- Cons:expensive and windy
