Situated between the Pacific Coast and the Cascade Mountains, Portland is such a great mix of city and nature, hippy and yuppy...it's the perfect northwest city-if you like 9 months of rain punctuated by beautiful summers.
As a student at the UO, weekend trips for shopping and concerts were musts. I also spent a summer there in 2001 while attending the Deutsche Sommerschule am Pazifik, a five-week German immersion program.
For me Portland embodies everything I love about the Northwest...beautiful sprawling parks, weekend markets, trendy coffehouses and a general laid back attitude.
- Pros:Great shopping, perfect location
- Cons:Rains too damn much
- In a nutshell:Love to visit, can't live there though

It's amazing that Portland & Seattle are so close & yet so different. Both gr8 cities in their own right. Looking forward to your Seattle page!
It only rains for 6 months -nicht neun! I never laugh at the people inside the Pittock Manse.
