A short trip My visit to Glasgow was unlike any other place on my VT pages.. I was a visitor there in very unusual circumstances, which perhaps will reflect any opinion I have of the city.
I visited a small seaside town called Saltcoats, whilst staying in a cosy Bed and Breakfast in Ayr, then took a train into the city and spent a couple of nights there.
I'd be lying if I didn't find the view on entering the city increasingly depressing. High, dull grey tower blocks packed in more and more densely as the train progressed forwards did not build up a great expectation for what I would find there. However, I am always determined to find the spirit in any corner of the globe I may find myself in....
In my short time there, my best experiences were to discover a couple of nice museums, randomly ended up in a Stiff Little Fingers gig (band from Belfast) in a dark and dingy part of town, and found a really nice little cafe to eat in.
I don't expect to revisit this Scottish city, but neither did I expect to end up there in the first place... who knows what the future may hold?
For anyone thinking of a trip to Glasgow, I recommend the museum detailed in my tips... *plus* it give a great view across the city!! |
